When you think of Halloween, some of the top things that come to your mind are probably costumes and candy. Don’t forget about pumpkins, though. You may use them for baking delicious pies or other treats, but carving jack-o’-lanterns is a familiar and popular activity. Pumpkin carving comes in all styles and themes. If you need some new ideas, there are plenty of options at your disposal.
Use Glow-in-the-Dark Teeth
You know those fun glow-in-the-dark fangs you can put in your mouth. These can work well in your Halloween pumpkin, too. Just make sure you pick a small enough one so the teeth will fit in well. Measure the teeth accurately so you can carve out the right size of the mouth. Then, once you turn off the lights, the teeth will stand out and look pretty scary in your window.
Use Cookie Cutters
You don’t necessarily have to carve a pumpkin with a knife to create something fun. Cookie cutters can also work well on pumpkins. For example, you can use fun and festive shapes on your pumpkin, such as ghosts, leaves, or any other Halloween-themed cutout. It can be difficult to push the cutter through the pumpkin rind. However, by using a mallet, you can push it through. Use a variety of cutters to make faces and shapes — funny, scary, goofy, or anything you’d like. If you have multiple pumpkins, you can create a family of cookie-cutter pumpkins.
Cookie Pumpkin
It’s pretty easy to turn a pumpkin into the beloved character Cookie Monster. Just color the pumpkin purple and make the googly eyes out of ping-pong balls. Put a cute smile on the pumpkin and then place a dozen or so cookies outside the mouth on a cookie sheet.
Pirate Ship
Sometimes you have to think a little outside the box — or the pumpkin. The pirate ship pumpkin is challenging, but your kids will love working on it. Cut out one side of the pumpkin and then turn it on the opposite side. Cut up the pieces you cut out into the ship’s sails, using toothpicks as the masts. Make tiny holes in the pumpkin for windows. A candle inside will be a nice touch on a Halloween night. This creation will begin to rot quickly, so make it as close to Halloween as possible.

Polka Dot Pumpkins
Filling your pumpkin full of holes looks pretty amazing when you place a candle inside. Just space the holes evenly, so the pumpkin doesn’t start to sag. Start by marking where the holes will go with a marker. Then, take a drill and poke out the holes.
