DockDogs Aquatic Competition
Published on: July 22nd, 2019
Summertime fun in the sun isn’t just for people. Your canine companions can make a splash this August at the DockDog aquatic competition! In the DockDogs events, furry friends must dive from a dock into the water and perform a variety of athletic feats in the process. Whether your pet is a fast swimmer, a high jumper, or just a good dog who loves to play, they’re welcome to come out for this day of fun and games.
When and Where
The canine competition will take place at the regatta on Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park on Saturday, August 3 through Sunday, August 4. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Moraine State Park is located at 225 Pleasant Valley Road, Portersville, Pennsylvania 16051.
register in advance, entry fees for the Big Air or Speed Retrieve events are $27 per team, per event. Other events are $12 per team. If you register on-site, those rates increase to $30 and $15 respectively. All breeds and mixes are welcome, from tiny toy poodles to massive mastiffs. All dogs must be at least six months old or older, and all handlers must be at least seven years old or older. The Competitions
DockDogs is considered to be the “premier canine aquatics competition,” and they host a variety of events to challenge the athleticism of our four-legged friends. In the Big Air competition, the handler tosses a fetch toy out over the water, and the participating dog performs its best long jump in pursuit. Judges gauge the distance by where the dog’s tail touches the water.
For the Speed Retrieve section, dogs must dive in and swim a distance to floating targets in the far end of the pool. The dog that does this in the fastest time wins. In the Extreme Vertical competition, the dogs must execute their most impressive high jump to catch a target suspended eight feet away from the edge of the dock. For a real test of your dog’s agility, you can sign them up for the Iron Dog Challenge, which combines all three competitions in a single triathlon event.
