Skiing is not a hobby that everyone has done before. If 2021 is your year to hit the slopes for the first time, you probably want to protect yourself with a few know-hows. There are some key tips you’ll want to stow away to reference during the day, so we looked around and found what we felt you needed to know. Remember to stay safe and have a blast! Let’s dive into these tips to get you excited about your trip.
The first step is pretty simple. Start by making sure you have the correct clothing and equipment, and that it’s all the right size. Your basic items include skis, boots, and poles. You can even rent your gear at the resort you’re skiing at. Chances are they will have all of the correct sizing needs and can give you answers as you think of questions. Just give them a call to double-check.
Once you have what you need, it’s time to get moving. You want to make sure your moves are correct, though. Your key movements are going to include gliding, duck walking, and sidestepping. Sidestepping just means that you move with your skis perpendicular to the slope to make it up a hill. Once you’re there, lean your knees uphill and step to the side. This will get you from point A to point B safely. A duck walk is done by making a V-shape with the tails of your skis. Push your ankles forward and your knees inward. This protects you from sliding backward.

Time To Stop
Getting going is so important, but it’s also crucial to know how to stop when you want to. When you’re ready to stop, just make a turn until you end up completely perpendicular. Easy enough, right?
Now that you’ve got your basic knowledge, you hopefully feel confident heading out to the slopes! If you’re looking for another way of transportation, like say a new vehicle, give Honda North a ring!
